Job Title: Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach (Lead SCC)

Summary- This is a contingent Opportunity and would begin work upon the contract award

The Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach (SCC) functions as an integrated member of a multi-disciplinary team focused on optimizing Soldier readiness and performance within the Army's Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) System. The system empowers and equips Soldiers to take charge of their health, fitness, and well-being to optimize individual performance while preventing injury and disease. As an integral part of the H2F Performance Team, the Lead SCC shall establish and administer effective strength and conditioning training programs designed to maximize the physical performance and reduce the risk of MSK injuries of Brigade (BDE) personnel. Lead SCCs shall complete the specific tasks at the BDE level. Lead SCCs shall perform services in accordance with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or with the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA) Scope of Practice as a Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as BDE Lead SCC and principal advisor to the BDE Program Director (PD) on physical performance optimization.

  • Assist the BDE in improving Soldier physical readiness by developing, coordinating, executing, and managing recommended and approved H2F System strength and conditioning programs.

  • Develop lines of communication within the BDE and Battalion (BN) leadership and participate in associated training and other meetings.

  • Coordinate, execute, and manage approved physical performance optimization programs within the framework of the unit’s training/operational schedule, battle rhythm, and culture.

  • Develop and recommend evidence-based, periodized strength and conditioning programs focused on unit mission and individual Soldier tasks in accordance with H2F System that are synchronized and integrated with unit training/operational schedule, battle rhythm, and culture and implement upon Government approval.

  • As required, submit recommended strength and conditioning programs, with quantified training loads, to the BDE PD for approval and implement upon Government approval.

  • Track Soldier/unit progression and provide data to the BDE PD as required.

  • Coordinate and assist the BDE PD and/or the Injury Control Director to develop, coordinate, and execute approved training programs for Soldiers with physical limitations that are medically cleared for strength and conditioning training/reconditioning.

  • Coordinate with BDE PD to ensure all strength and conditioning education and services are synchronized and integrated with approved education and services provided by H2F Performance Team.

  • Coach and mentor the BDE SCCs, unit fitness leaders and the H2F integrator. Travel may be required to perform this task for geographically disbursed SCCs.

  • Provide recommended and approved instruction and guidance to Soldiers and the BDE leadership on physical strength and conditioning and injury prevention in coordination with the H2F Performance Team.

  • Identify and direct Soldiers with an apparent new or undiagnosed medical condition to the appropriate medical professionals for evaluation and treatment.

  • Ensure documentation and reporting of data in accordance with guiding instructions provided by the BDE PD.

  • As required, participate (virtual or in-person) in H2F System reviews to identify best practices and lessons learned throughout the H2F System and recommend opportunities for improvement.

  • Compile monthly BDE summary report and submit to the BDE PD.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Lead SCC for CPSs and SCCs working within the Brigade.

  • Provide guidance and expertise to other Strength and Conditioning Coaches.

Required Education and/or Experience Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in any field from an accredited college or university OR a Bachelor’s degree with five years’ SCC experience, two of which operating independently within the Army’s H2F Program.

  • Current certification by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA) as a Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC).

  • Three or more years of relevant professional experience working in a strength and conditioning coach capacity within a health/well-being program with athletes or government entities. Employment related to internships or graduate work up to one year will be considered towards relevant experience.

  • Have a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification with Automated External Defibrillators (AED) certification from the American Heart Association/American Red Cross.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Must be able to clear a Tier 1 Government Security Investigation/Background Check

  • Must not have been convicted of a felony.

  • Strong interpersonal, oral communication and written communication skills in English.

  • This position requires access to U.S. Government facilities and systems. U.S. Citizenship, a valid driver's license, transportation, and auto insurance are required.

  • Must be able to adhere to the physical demands which are essential for the position with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one year working directly with Service Members in a performance and/or resilience training and education setting

  • Previous Military service

Physical Demands: Works in office areas. Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours. Uses a personal computer, telephones, copiers, printers, and other office equipment. Be capable of properly lifting and manipulating loads or weights up to 45 pounds and capable of meeting physical demands of training in all types of weather with Soldiers including the ability to hike over rough terrain, function in austere environments to observe Soldier training evolutions and to train, educate, coach, and mentor.

Pay Range: $67,000 - $85,500
